!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! I like it, but it’s out of the planned price range. Granted, if it’s still available for sale in six months, lowballing is always an option.

If it’s easy to import from ‘berta, there’s this one
If not, the previous gen ones seem to be nearly the same price as the one you posted.

Also remember insurance is higher for civics.

More expensive here? As long as I’m not paying $3k a year in insurance like I would be in Ontario for one, I’m happy.

Being younger boys buy civics, & drive them doing (non street legal, more accidents) things more Vs. more mature drivers. Their premiums are quite high. I got bored & I got quotes on a Civic Si Vs. Corvette. The Vette was $15 more/month than the Civic. The Civic is much less car then a Vette m

I looked at one of these before I bought my TSX. The drivetrain is pretty much the same, but the paint issues on the Civic kept me away.

As a Honda guy, I warn you to stay away from the 2012 Civic in any form. That one specific year, they royally fucked up the Civic, prompting a facelift the following year. The year before was the good ol 2006-2011 Civic. But these? No. Wouldn’t touch it with a 20-mile stick. They’re plain cheaply built and actually unreliable with tons of gremlins.

I don’t see it as a smokin hot deal, but I disagree that ‘12's are demonstrably different or worse than the ‘06 -11's. Interior is a bit different, but with the same basic engine (just longer stroke), the same gearbox, same suspension; how is it not the same car?
These cars perform well and wear like iron. I wax my ‘o7 si once a year and have had no clear coat issues. It’s probably the best mix of utility, price and performance you can get.

Checked the numbers, $1400 for the year (and I could most likely talk that down). Not bad, in my opinion.

I’ve always had a soft spot for the Civic Si, even the much-maligned 2012. Despite the considerable cheapening of the car compared to the outgoing 2011, there were some good things to be found.
The 2012 was the first year with the larger 2.4L engine, which trades top-end VTEC kick for low-end torque. This generation also introduced the larger billet aluminium shift knob which feels great in your hands (unless it’s hot or cold, but deal with it!).
There is no other shifter that can match the slick action of a Honda manual. I don’t know why it’s so hard for other brands to follow. It’s both low-effort and high-accuracy, while still feeling mechanical.

I think the 2006 was far ahead of its time. The cab-way-forward proportions and extreme windshield rake were remarkable. Inside it also blew all the competition away with the spaceship steering wheel designs (in 2-spoke and 3-spoke versions), dual-tier IP and boomerang door handles. The car would still look decently fresh today.
So when the 2012 came out with the exact same proportions but all the details dumbed down, it looked like it should have been the car that came out in ‘06. The ‘12 Civic definitely looks old today—the ‘13 literally fixed every single thing that was wrong with the ‘12.

True - But isn’t the topic here that he’s looking for a used car at the $10k US price point? I wonder if you realize that physically that the ‘11 and ‘12 are same cars after a mid cycle redesign that changed some interior bits, the tail lights and put a 2.4 in place of the 2.0 engine. It has exactly the same suspension, nearly the same steering wheel, nearly the same two tier dash design and it has the same windshield and sighlines. At those miles and that age, it ought to be a good value and a lot of fun.
If he/she gets it, they will enjoy it for a couple of years and move on and I doubt that the fact that Honda deconteneted the sliding beverage cover and went with in some people’s opinion a less edgy interior and exterior design will make any difference to their enjoyment. I think either an ‘07, ‘11 or ‘12 are fine cars. My advice is get as much car as you can for the money and drive on.....

No disagreement there. I came somewhat close to buying a ‘12 Civic Si sedan myself, after the improved ‘13 came out. That didn’t work out and I moved on to various other cars, but I still have a soft spot for the Si.
